What a pro does

The plumber's job on a hidden leak is to make it visible before opening anything up. He'll close the main, watch whether pressure holds, then isolate sections so the loss can be narrowed to a run rather than a house. Meter watching does the same work from the other end on city water. On a well there's no meter, so the pump becomes the gauge, and a pump that starts on its own with everything closed is proof water is leaving somewhere. From there it's listening gear and moisture readings to put a mark on the wall or the floor. A lot of these leaks in Alabama live in places nobody visits: under a pier-and-beam floor, at a hose bibb that split during a freeze and only leaks when the valve's open, at a fitting in an addition that was plumbed by whoever built it. The repair is the short part. Cut the failed section out, join it with matched fittings, pressure test it, and only then close the wall or the floor back up.

The pressure tank does the work instead. Bring the system to pressure, close the valve feeding the house, and see whether pressure holds. If it drops with the house isolated, the loss is between the well and that valve. If it holds, the leak is inside, and sections get isolated one at a time from there.
Water finds structure. In this climate a slow leak inside a wall or under a floor is a moisture problem in the framing well before it's a plumbing failure, and the drying and repair afterward tends to be the bigger part of the job. Small leaks also rarely stay small.
A hose left connected through a freeze traps water in the spigot, and when it freezes it splits the pipe inside the wall. The break doesn't show until you open the valve in spring, and then the water goes into the wall instead of out the spout. That's a common first call of the season.
