What a pro does

The first question a plumber answers is how far down the trouble sits. One slow fixture points at its own trap or the short branch behind it. Two or more, especially the lowest ones in the house, and he's looking at the main. A lot of small-town Alabama housing stock still runs original cast iron branch lines, and those don't clog the way plastic does. They scale, meaning the inside diameter shrinks year after year until an ordinary amount of grease has nowhere to go. It's a coin flip on a fresh, shallow clog and close to useless on anything further down. The bigger problem is what's left behind. Caustic liquid sitting in a full trap is something the next person working on that drain has to deal with, and it does nothing at all to roots or to a scaled cast iron line.
It changes what a plumber checks. A single slow fixture is still a house-side issue. But repeated backups across several drains on a septic system point outside, toward a tank that needs pumping or a drain field that's stopped taking water, which is common after a long wet stretch.
Both fixtures share a branch downstream, and the washer dumps a lot of water fast. When that water hits a partial blockage, the air ahead of it has to go somewhere and it comes up through the nearest open drain. The gurgle is the air, and it's telling you the restriction is past both fixtures.
Depends on why it clogged. Hair and soap in a bathroom trap is a one-time thing. A kitchen line that's been collecting grease for thirty years, or a scaled iron pipe, will come back on a schedule until the pipe itself gets addressed.
