Seasonal timing

The climb from a 37-degree January low to a 71-degree July low keeps copper under the floor expanding and contracting all year, so a faint knock in the walls during winter often turns into real water hammer by midsummer.

Common questions

How much does a plumber cost?

It depends on the job and how bad the problem is. That is why the first step is a phone call. Describe the problem and get your free estimate on the phone, with upfront pricing.

Will I talk to a real person?

Yes, you will.

Do I need to fill out a form?

No forms and no waiting on emailed quotes. One phone call is all it takes.

Can I get help at night or on a weekend?

We have plumbers ready to help families in the community 24/7, but moment-to-moment availability depends on demand. Call to find out how soon we can service your home.

Should I wait to call?

You already know that plumbing problems don't go away on their own. And waiting just increases the risks to your house. Plumbers see this hesitation all the time. Instead of regretting not calling earlier, just make that 2-minute call now and get your free estimate.

People also ask

Who owns the water line between the meter and the house?

The homeowner does, in almost every setup around here. The utility maintains the main and the meter; everything on the house side of it is yours, which is why a wet spot in the yard between the meter box and the slab lands on you and not the water office.

My pipes bang when the washer shuts off. Is that a problem?

It's worth looking at. Water hammer is a pressure spike when a valve closes fast, and repeated shocks loosen joints over time. A plumber checks static pressure, looks at whether the arrestors are spent, and traces which run is moving against its straps.

How can I tell if my house has polybutylene pipe?

It shows up as grey or blue flexible pipe, usually stubbed out at the water heater or under the crawlspace floor, in houses built through the 1980s and into the mid 1990s. Homes of that vintage are common between here and White Hall. A plumber can confirm it in a few minutes at the heater connection.

Does a crawlspace need anything different from a slab home?

Yes. A crawlspace puts every supply line in open air, so insulation and a dry vapor barrier matter more than they would over slab. Slab homes hide their runs instead, which means a leak shows as a warm floor or a running meter rather than a drip you can see from Luverne road level or anywhere else outside.
